POINTS OF ATTENTION WHEN INSTALLING THE CAMSHAFT
-> Work must be carried out by a trained and skilled person
-> When installing a camshaft, always use new cam followers or plungers, tugs and pads
-> Protect the cams and cam followers from running dry during the start when installed. Use Molykote grease (MoS2) for this. Optionally lubricate with oil during the start.
Make sure that the hydraulic push/adjusters have one to two hours to adjust or empty them before installation. Make sure that there is sufficient oil pressure when the engine is put into use.
Insufficient lubrication can cause your camshaft to be damaged again. Also, don't forget to clean the oil strainer and crankcase and possibly measure the oil pressure first.
A contaminated crankcase ventilation, malfunctioning EGR valve, bad injectors or a malfunctioning particulate filter/regeneration process can cause severe engine oil contamination, resulting in accelerated camshaft wear due to dilution of engine oil by fuel or water.
-> Make sure that the other components (valve springs, etc.) are in excellent condition
-> Always make sure you have the right components and that all components are properly adjusted (correct valve clearance, correct operation of hydraulic plungers, etc.)
-> Observe the correct tightening torques of the bolts
-> Change engine oil and oil filter. This prevents any metal residues in the oil from causing new damage.
